We make things as economical as possible and for some events the fees are waived. The cost of hosting workshops varies for each vendor depending on factors like space needed, frequency, and support required. Our emphasis is to attract more foot traffic to the Kaleidoscope and to find ways to support small creative businesses so we try to keep your costs of doing business as low as possible. We always discuss hosting costs upfront to ensure transparency and clarity.Typically, vendors can expect to pay 5-15% of ticket sales.  We welcome a variety of events like book signings, artist talks, and open mic poetry, so feel free to share your ideas with us. If you have a community that is in need of space to gather we want to collaborate with you.

If you’re interested in hosting a workshop, please fill our form. We review applications on an ongoing basis, and there is no fee to apply.

Paint your own Octopus under “Glass”

Come join us at Curate at the Kaleidoscope for a fun and creative event where you can unleash your inner artist! Let your imagination run wild as you paint your very own octopus masterpiece.

Artist Lara Kempke’s description of her class:

We’re Gonna Paint an Octopus! You will be provided with an 8×8 wood panel, chalk pencils, acrylic paints, brushes, and resining material. Don’t worry, I’ll walk you through every step! First we’ll prep the board, paint a background, and sketch on the octopus. I’ll show you reference photos and my own artwork for inspiration, we’ll talk about composition and placement. And probably weird facts about octopuses too.I’ll guide you through every step of painting, and your octopus will develop a personality before your eyes—it’s like magic!

Once your painting is dry (I’ll assist with a hair dryer), I will teach you to mix and pour resin over it, to create a sleek, glossy finish, like you’re looking through the glass of an aquarium! You will be able to take it home that day—just keep it level and flat until the resin cures, about 24 hours!

During the 3 hour class, we will take a short break (feel free to get a snack or a drink from one of the eateries on site).

Gloves and apron will be provided, but you might get messy! Dress accordingly!

This in-person event will provide all the materials you need to create a unique piece of art to take home with you. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to get crafty and have a blast with friends or family!

About Lara Kempke

Lara Kempke is an award winning artist who has shown her work all across Orange County, in Los Angeles, and Arizona. She is primarily self taught, and is constantly challenging herself to learn new techniques, try new materials, and push the boundaries of her art. This has also given her a lot of experience in problem solving, and in figuring things out on the fly—or embracing a mistake and finding a way to make it work! She has a background in music, theater, and education, which makes her uniquely suited to engaging with classes of all ages. Lara’s workshops have been held at Laguna Art A Fair, and this summer through her pop-up art collective, Dragonfly Wing Gallery at the Kaleidoscope. She has had several students tell her that they had so much fun they’d gladly take the same class all over again!
